The old red Dodge, is well fitted out with two trolleys, more than enough padding blankets to protect your furniture and leather carrying straps. The use of carrying straps is an old skill and probably the most important to ensure the safety of your furniture, your home and of course the men. We aim to take care of everything.

Moving house is up there with the most stressful events that can take place in a persons life. The most effective way to eliminate the stress involved with moving is to be ORGANIZED. More time spent preparing for the day will reduce the chance of turning what should be a happy and exciting time into one of chaos and turmoil. Keep all of the relevant paperwork and information in one place. Put together a list of things that need to be done (we have a checklist to assist you with this).
Having confidence in the company to provide the service that is promised is important. If you have doubts ask questions and check out reviews. A tip is to type in the business name of the service that you are interested in at the Google search bar. Showing product reviews and their actual location.
Allow plenty of time to pack up your belongings. This is a chance to discover what has been hiding in your cupboards and have a thorough spring clean. Organize a SURVIVAL KIT for the day. That is a small box or basket containing your jug, tea, coffee, etc.. Use clean garbage bags to carry your bedding (sheets, pillows, etc.). These items can easily travel in the car with you and be readily available at your new home. A hot cuppa when you need it or the comfort of your bed at the end of a long day are things you might be looking for.
A tidy approach to packing up will make it easier and quicker for the removalists to load your belongings into the truck. Acquire packing materials (sturdy boxes,paper,packaging tape and marking pen). Pack all small and delicate items into boxes, clearly label the box as to its contents and the room to which it should be delivered.
For local removals you may leave clothing in the drawers of bedside drawers, dressing tables and tallboys. Not heavy items like paperwork or books and not breakable items. This will reduce the time spent packing and unpacking as well as the number of cartons to be moved. Furniture with doors or shelves must be empty. Pillows, blankets, soft toys, etc can be packed into clean heavy duty garbage bags.
Keep hallways and doorways clear of clutter.
Disconnect electrical items and tie up all cords and cables so they don’t drag on the ground.
Disconnect your washing machine from the taps. Drain the hoses and tie them up at the back of the machine so they don’t drag on the ground.
The refrigerator may have a drip tray, under the front or at the back. Take it out if possible empty the water out clean and replace it.
Dismantle beds where possible and any other item that needs to be dismantled for transportation.
Place parts e.g: bed legs, nuts & bolts or TV remote control into a small clearly marked box. DO NOT tape your TV remote to the TV it may be lost or damaged.
Brooms, mops, rakes, etc can be bundled together with packaging tape. Drain the water from your garden hose, roll it up and then tape it up.
Remember your pot plants! Don’t water them for 2 days before your move and if possible move them undercover if it might rain. They will be in the back of a truck with your furniture. It is possible that water run through the truck and damage your mattresses or other soft furnishings.

For strength in the box fold the flaps together, do not interleave them and then tape along the join on the bottom of the box going down the sides of the box approximately 10cm (4 inches).
Prepare a large work area (like your dining room table) by laying out the wrapping paper flat on the table and arrange some items to be wrapped. Sit a taped box on a dining room chair beside you to save bending. Pack a layer of linen into the bottom of the box (approx. 5cm or 2 inches) and in between layers to act as a cushion. If you don’t like this idea crushed up paper will do the same job. Roll each item up in the paper folding in the edges as you go.
Pack plates into the boxes standing on their edge. Place heavier items at the bottom of the box and lighter items toward the top. Check the weight of the box as you go. The removalist has a trolley to move the boxes in and out , but when they are gone you will find yourself moving them around to unpack them. Leave room at the top for a layer of linen before the box is closed and taped up.
Make sure that all jars and bottles are sealed properly and stand them upright in the box after wrapping. Open cereal boxes etc. can be sealed with a small length of packaging tape. Use your packets and cardboard containers between glass jars and bottles. Glass bottles must be stood up in smaller boxes wrapping at least every second one. Use hand towels, face washers, etc or crushed up paper to fill up the spaces stopping the bottles from rattling around.
Pack books and magazines into smaller boxes, they become heavy. Remember to check the weight if the box is getting too heavy top it up with some lighter items.
When the box is full, fold to close and tape the top then clearly mark on the box with a marking pen a brief summary of the box contents, if the contents are fragile mark the box so and the room to which it should be delivered.
